Leaving Swakopmund..... .....on the C34 northbound. Some local industry. Passing Hentiesbaai.....

.....a mainly marine..... .....recreation area. Pad scrubbers are not very efficient on tarred roads. Cape Cross is the point where.....

.....the Portuguese explorer Diego Cão..... .....landed the country as first European in 1484. Today this place is famous for its huge seal colony. They are just everywhere.....

.....and produce a very 'interesting' smell. Seals. Seals. Seal.

We leave the smelly animals and go on seeking for plants..... .....that are unique to this country..... .....the Welwichia mirabilis. Their roots go deep into the ground.....

.....and even if they seem dead..... .....they just wait for the next rain season. Surrounded by Wild West..... .....countryside.

Blossoms. They are just everywhere. In the background is the Brandberg mountain, the highest of the country. Bug. They can get quite big and old (the plants).
